  • The West Point Leadership Ethics and Diversity in STEM (LEADS) hosted a workshop at Newman Smith on Friday, January 20th. Middle and high school students from the entire Dallas-Fort Worth area congregated to learn Entrepreneurship Finance, Virtual Bridge Building, and Leadership and Ethics. The goal is for students to “realize the key role ethical leadership and science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) competence play in becoming an effective leader.”

  • Please join us in congratulating our two All-State Dancers, Zach August and Marcela Vazquez, on their outstanding work at the TDEA Convention this past week! There were 222 All-State Dancers from across the state of Texas, and Zach was the only male dancer represented. Both took numerous master classes and performed in an amazing performance featuring all of the 222 dancers. They both represented our district with the utmost of excellence and professionalism!

  • Congratulations to the students who participated this year in Reflections, the National PTA Art Program. The theme for 2016-17 was 'What is your story?' Students from Kinder through 12 grade may participate in 6 different categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography and Visual Arts. Students compete in their school and the top 20% advance to the CFB Council PTA judging. In the picture above are the Overall Award of Excellence recipients with an entry that advanced to State level of judging. Good luck to you!   • On January 7, five students from Creekview High School made their way to Keller, Texas to compete in the fiercely competitive Area B choral auditions.
    Creekview Choir Students Advance to All-State
  • RLT Fine Arts will present Disney's beloved musical Beauty and the Beast January 19, 20 and 21 at 7:00 p.m. The performances start at 7:00 p.m. Pre-sale tickets are $10 general admission. All tickets bought at the door are $12. Tickets can be purchased at https://ticketracker.com/store/events/1418. Considered to be one of the most popular of Disney's creations, Beauty and The Beast is a "tale as old as time" and appropriate for all ages and audiences. Please join Belle, Gaston, the Beast and all of the beloved characters as they come to life on stage in a beautiful story of love and acceptance. The production boasts a cast of over 70 members, as well as the 2015-2016 winner of both the Dallas Summer Musicals and Schmidt and Jones awards for Best Orchestra, the R. L. Turner Pit Orchestra.

    What Do Colleges Want?
  • Three students from Creekview High were chosen to have their art works featured in the Dallas Museum of Art. Their art has been selected from hundreds of entries from the best art high schools in the metroplex. Please congratulate Shaun Houpy, Violet Smith and Taskeen Zehra. What an honor to have their art in an internationally renowned museum. The work will be on display February 25 - April 16.

  • Newman Smith hosted a small group of Korean students from Guri City, sister city to Carrollton. They showed the Korean students a glimpse of what it's like to live in Texas by touring their school and classrooms, escorting them on field trips around the Metroplex, and by hosting dinner and parties. This was also featured as an article in Texas Korea Daily.

  • Congratulations to Senior Trojan Golfer Casey Washmon for shooting her personal best score yesterday at The Tribute hosted by Ranchview High School. Casey finished 1 over par-shooting a low score of 73. She was the 2nd place medalist. This will conclude her fall season. She finished in the top 3 in all 3 of her fall tournaments. Congratulations to her!

  • What: Students may enter (1) one film into each of the four categories: Documentary, Narrative, Traditional Animation, Computer Animation When: Entries are to be submitted via GoogleDrive to Whitney Kelley (kelleyw@cfbisd.edu) or Renee Putter (putterr@cfbisd.edu) between December 9, 2016 and January 5, 2017. All entries will be screened on January 13th at Creekview High School, and winners will be announced. How: Talk to your campus contact for entry and submission guidelines. Who can enter? Open to all CFBISD full-time high school students: Creekview, Newman Smith, RL Turner, Ranchview, Early College High School Will there be prizes? Awards will be given for Best of Show, Best in Category and People's Choice. Talk with your campus coordinator about entering the State Competition from your campus.
