Pre-Kindergarten
Pre-kindergarten teachers work to develop the student's oral language skills and basic concepts. All classes emphasize basic language skills. Bilingual classes use both Spanish and English as the basic language of instruction.
To be eligible for enrollment in a pre-kindergarten class, a child must be 4 years of age on September 1 and meet one of the following criteria:
- Unable to speak and comprehend the English language.
- Educationally disadvantaged (Eligible to participate in the national free or reduced-price lunch program.)
- Homeless, as defined by 42 U.S.C. Section 11302, regardless of the residence of the child, of either parent of the child, or of the child's guardian or other person having lawful control of the child.
- Child of military: active, reserved, missing in action or who have died.
To register, parents need to bring an original birth certificate, Social Security card, current immunization record and two proofs of residency (lease agreement or mortgage, utility bill with name and address, driver's license), proof of income (two recent pay stubs) and emergency phone numbers for home, family physician, dentist and three personal emergency contacts.
Pre-kindergarten students residing in the apartments located in the vicinity of Spring Valley, and MacArthur and Walnut Hill will receive transportation from the apartments to the pre-kindergarten campus because they live more than two miles from their home school. All other pre-kindergarten students will receive transportation from their home school campus to their pre-kindergarten center.
