Academies
Overview Of The Academies of C-FB ISD There are five Academies within Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD. They offer a concentrated 4-year curriculum in the areas of 1) biomedical professions, 2) international business, 3) law and criminal justice, 4) math, engineering, science and technology, and 5) media arts, and technology. Students participate in field trips, earn dual credit for college, receive certification in certain areas, and are placed in internships, clinical rotations, and co-operative education training placements in businesses related to their career interest. Students apply during their 8th grade year and are selected according to the criteria of grades, attendance records, TAKS scores, essays and teacher recommendations.

The Academy for Media Arts and Technology (AMAT)

The Academy for Media Arts and Technology at R. L. Turner High School offers in-depth study and field experience for students in the following areas: Media Arts, Computer Science, Business Technology , and (beginning Fall 2007) Digital Graphic Arts. Students will take a sequence of courses in one or more of these areas, and participate in an internship during their senior year. Students also will have opportunities to earn college credit and gain certifications in various applications. |

The Academy of BioMedical Professions

The Academy of BioMedical Professions at R. L. Turner High School is for students interested in such careers as physician, nurse, veterinarian, veterinary technician, biomedical researcher, biotechnician, pharmacist, physical therapist, dentist, biomedical engineer, or optometrist, etc. You can earn certifications in EMT-Basic, Certified Nurse Assistant, CPR, First Aid, and Veterinary Assistant. |

The International Business Academy

The International Business Academy at Newman Smith High School is for students interested in the vast fields of business. The program offers information and in-depth studies in marketing, advertising, finance, accounting, business law, international business, business management, and entrepreneurship. Students take a sequence of these courses to build a strong foundation in business studies. Each student will complete an internship, senior year, to gain experience and knowledge in a business environment. We provide many field experiences and offer domestic and international travel components to enhance the classroom experience. |

The Law and Criminal Justice Academy

The Law and Criminal Justice Academy at Creekview High School is an academy for students who are interested in careers such as a police officer, crime scene specialist, federal agent, private investigator, paralegal, attorney, judge, medical examiner, pathologist, politician, or civil servant, etc. It is available to students within the Creekview attendance zone as well as 20 additional students who live outside the attendance zone. |

The Math, Engineering, Technology and Science Academy (METSA)

The Math, Engineering, Technology and Science Academy at R. L. Turner is for students interested in the field of Engineering. The program offers a developmental four year sequence of courses which, when combined with college preparatory mathematics and science courses, introduces students to the scope, rigor and discipline of engineering and engineering technology prior to entering college. The coursework is delivered in a comprehensive project-based approach that allows students to investigate and experience the means by which humans meet their needs and wants, solve problems, and extend their capabilities. |

Recruitment Activities
- Directors and students from these Academies will visit the middle schools in the fall.
- Applications are available from the middle school counselors.
- Parent meetings for interested 8th grade students will be held each at school.
- Tours of the academies are provided for interested students
